Vietnam's southwest plains are usually flooded during the rainy season. The countryside is beautiful, although lifestyle is different from the dry season. Dawns and sunsets are spectacular. People would go fishing for a living: there are fish everywhere while children tend the families' flocks of ducks. Trees and plants start flowering. Egrets and other wildlife are seen perched on top of trees. Wet rice grows in flooded fields.
Water is a way of life and even children know how to paddle a boat. Houses are built on stilts to prevent against floods, although there are always some unlucky ones whose houses are washed away from rains and currents.
